Aaron Rose Releases 23-Minute Fausto Vitello Interview From 2005

Aaron Rose’s Beautiful Losers turned 10 this month. In honor of the occasion, Rose curated an art show that is on display at The Hole in New York until September 1. It’s a celebration of the DIY / outsider art that was showcased through Rose’s Alleged Gallery in the Lower East Side during the early ‘90s. The film highlights many artists that are a big part of skateboarding’s culture. Rose talked to numerous people for Beautiful Losers, and is currently releasing 100 raw interviews via his Vimeo page that include: Larry Clark, Harmony Korine, Dash Snow, Ian Mackaye, Cheryl Dunn, and many more.

The above 23-minute conversation with Fausto Vitello is especially noteworthy. The Thrasher magazine and Independent Trucks founder talks about skateboarding’s early days, and gives a good deal of insight into the evolution of the culture. What’s most interesting is that everything that he says is still relevant today.

Fausto passed away in 2006 roughly a year after this was shot. Have a look at what may be his final interview in its entirety above.
