Jason Lee Says He Owes Everything to Skateboarding

Jason Lee’s story is intertwined with one of skateboarding’s most magical eras. The combination of Spike Jonze’s photography and early filmmaking coupled with Mark Gonzales one-of-a-kind creativity produced content that has stood the test of time for nearly 30 years now. Jason went on to do arguably bigger and better things. But despite all of the mainstream success, he remains one of the most respected pioneers of early ‘90s tech; and his style is still referenced as being untouchable today.

Chrome Ball Incident just dropped a comprehensive interview with J. Lee that focuses on his skate career. It’s coupled with a good deal of the iconic photography from those wonder years;  and, in case you were wondering, Lee still credits skateboarding as the catalyst for everything that he’s accomplished after.

What does skateboarding mean to you in the wake of a far more lucrative acting career?

Well, the lucrative thing doesn’t really matter.

Skateboarding was just always the catalyst for everything else. It’s responsible for everything I am as a creative person. It has shaped both who I am and how I think.  

It’s certainly the most important thing that’s ever happened to me. It really is. And I owe everything to skateboarding, without a doubt.
