In 2002, Nas had just finished his legendary feud with Jay-Z, and was at odds with New York radio. In the midst of all of the drama, the Queens MC decided to address the situation on wax, and enlisted Salaam Remi to produce the beat. Remi slowed down Incredible Bongo Band’s “Apache” to create the loop for “Made You Look.” The result was one of Nas’ most celebrated classics, which would become forever intertwined with skateboarding a year later via Paul Rodriguez’s Yeah Right part.
