Kenny Anderson Connects the Dots Between Jazz and Street Skating

Threads: Kenny Anderson

The similarities between improvisational jazz and street skating are undeniable. That’s why Stereo’s introduction of Blue Note’s graphic style was so fitting in the ‘90s, and everything that Jahmal Williams has been doing with Hopps makes so much sense conceptually. Kenny Anderson—who is an accomplished trumpet player in his own right—adds another great observation on the connection in the debut episode of Brixton’s “Threads.”

Miles [Davis] to me, I compare his playing to skateboarding a lot. Miles can play one note; and it’s like he plays a whole song…that’s similar to skateboarding to me…I can watch one person push, and do a little ollie; and I’d rather watch that than a full part.
