Mark Gonzales Recreates 1998 Performance From the Städtisches Museum Abteiberg

Mark Gonzales /// Aloha Super

On July 12, Mark Gonzales recreated an important piece of our culture’s history. His iconic 1998 performance from the Städtisches Museum Abteiberg was one of the first times the fine art world recognized skateboarding as a medium. Cheryl Dunn documented the original performance and released the now-classic  “Back Words For Worlds” video. It shows that when Gonz’s four wheels hit gallery floors, magic happens.

Mark’s recreation at New York’s Milk Studios was a part of adidas Showcase X—a group show curated by Gonzales as a part of the brand’s Das Days celebration. As you can see in the video above, the latest rendition does the original justice.
