Skateboarding Is Used as a Vehicle for Political Satire in “Mask Off”

MASK OFF $

Jonayd Cherifi, Etienne Declerck, and Tristan Helias’s “Mask Off $” has been online for a couple of weeks; but we’re just now catching wind of it. It features a depiction of world leaders on a wild romp through Paris on skateboards in a conceptual piece that borrows heavily from Cliché and Jenkem’s 2013 United World Leaders video. The editing style is also very reminiscent of Spike Jonze and the Beastie Boys’s “Sabotage.” Originality aside, the execution is fantastic in this two-and-a-half-minute short that draws parallels between the lawlessness of the world’s current political climate and street skating in its purest form. Check it out above.
