Nyjah Huston Claims Victory in Men’s Street at WST Rome 2023

Nyjah Huston successfully defended his men’s title at the World Skate Tour: Street Skateboarding Rome 2023 event on Sunday, June 25.

During his first run, the American athlete initially secured a score of 90.00. But Kelvin Hoeffler was able to get the lead in the second run with a score of 91.51.

However, Huston quickly took charge with his impressive first trick for the best trick section of the competition earning him a score of 92.55. His second trick also impressed the judges and got him 89.92 points.

Although he failed to execute his third trick, he managed to exceed his own performance with an incredible effort on his fourth attempt, resulting in an impressive score of 93.96 points.

This outstanding display contributed to his overall winning score of 276.51 (best run and top 2 best tricks).

Huston’s exceptional performance left him comfortably ahead of the other competitors, with a 17-point lead over the rest of the field.

Sora Shirai from Japan secured second place, scoring 263.36 points, thanks to two tricks that each earned him over 90 points. Brazilian athlete Kelvin Hoefler rounded out the podium with a score of 259.28

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Liz Akama snatched victory from Chloe Covell after nailing her final trick in the women’s division. She earned a final score of 263.90.

Australian Covell came in at a close second with a score of 261.43. Yumeka Oda placed third with a score of 246.38.

The event serves as one of the qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
