If you’re a fan of skateboarding, you probably know that airports are one of the most coveted spots to shred.
Smooth floors, curved rails, spinning luggage belts, and endless lines of benches offer endless possibilities for tricks and creativity.
But unless you’re Tony Hawk in a video game, you also know that airports are off-limits for skaters, who risk getting kicked out or arrested for trespassing.
That’s why Red Bull Terminal Takeover is such a unique and amazing event. For the third year in a row, Red Bull has transformed the old New Orleans airport terminal into a skateboarding wonderland, inviting some of the best skaters from across the country to compete and create content in a once-in-a-lifetime setting.
The event, which took place on April 14th and 15th, 2023, featured 10 teams of skaters, including four shops from outside the Delta region, representing different shops and regions, each with their own filmer and photographer.
The teams had two days to explore and skate three custom-built zones in the vacant terminal, inspired by street and park elements.
The zones included a baggage claim area with metal ledges and rails, a concourse with benches and planters, and a departure gate with stairs and gaps.
The teams had to film and edit their best clips from each zone and submit them for a fan-sourced vote. Full video entries will go live soon on the Red Bull website.
