A group of skateboarders in Memphis is organizing a peaceful demonstration in memory of Tyre Nichols on February 4 dubbed “Keep Pushing for Tyre”.
Joshua Cooper Brayboy posted the announcement on his Instagram page. Skaters are asked to assemble at The National Civil Rights Museum at 3 pm
A skater and amateur photographer, Nichols died days after he was severely beaten up by police officers of the Memphis Police Department during a traffic stop.
His mother, RowVaughn Wells organized a Go Fund Me page for Tyre. The fund will be used to build a memorial skatepark for Tyre as well as to cover his parents’ mental health services and time off their jobs.
His mother writes on his Go Fund Me page: “He had never been in trouble with the law, not even a parking ticket. He was an honest man, a wonderful son, and kind to everyone. He was quirky and true to himself, and his loss will be felt nationally.”
