Vans Kicks Off a 3-Part Celebration of Steve Caballero’s Signature Shoes

CUT DOWN: 30 Years Of The Vans Half Cab | Episode 1: The Full Cab | Skate | VANS

From inventing tricks to developing collections, Steve Caballero’s been an icon of skate culture since the 1970s. There’s plenty of story to tell, and “CUT DOWN: 30 years of the Vans Half Cab, Episode 1: The Full Cab” directed by Patrick O’Dell details the origins of his signature shoe.

For this first episode, they tapped the official Vans historian for details on how 1989’s Full Cab was arguably the very first signature pro skate shoe – the first one that really got its claws in pop culture, anyway. Always a popular style, but lacking in ankle flexibility, DIY-loving street skaters chopped the high top in two. Then, after Steve Caballero tried it himself, the Half Cab was born.

Vans released this first episode with the statement, “Vans celebrates skateboarding’s creative spirit and three decades of an icon that’s influenced culture both within skateboarding and beyond, with Half Cab™ product drops and many exciting collaborations throughout the year.” Hints at a new shoe or a retro style? Time will tell, so check back for the next episodes and product releases.
