UPDATE: Kareem Campbell Is Officially Back in Axion

10 years ago, someone bought the freshly-expired Axion trademark, and attempted to relaunch the brand without Kareem Campbell’s knowledge. Despite its best effort to rekindle the magic, and recruiting a team that included: Manny Santiago, Kevin Taylor, and Brian Wenning for a quick second; the reboot failed miserably. Given how much of a shit show 2020 has been thus far, it makes sense that history is repeating itself this year. We’re just hoping that Reem got paid. Follow the latest iteration on Instagram and the web starting on October 15.

UPDATE 11.08.20: The latest episode of The Ghetto Bird Show focuses on Axion. Reem clears the air on the previous relaunch attempt, shows off a couple of unseen models, and reveals a few of his next moves with the brand. Axion also teased a new design called the Majik, which will be dropping next Sunday. Watch the podcast, and check the new shoes above and below, respectively.

UPDATE 11.01.20: The saga continues with Axion’s Black Collection, which drops today via the brand’s website at 11:01 PT.  On Friday, a press release was circulated, which provides a peek behind the curtain of this new incarnation of the legacy brand.

The trademark was acquired by Eric Stalker and former Krew / Supra President, Steve Harden. Kareem Campbell was subsequently brought on as a Partner and Creative Director. The relaunch of the Guy Mariano design sold out within 36 hours. After today’s release, an additional small capsule is planned for 2020, which will be followed by the brand’s introduction at shops and international distributors for Spring / Summer ’21.

Based on the initial response, Reem’s involvement, and the success of ’90s-inspired footwear in the market over the past several years, Axion appears to have a legitimate shot at a full comeback this time around. No word on a team as of yet, but the below photos of Derek Wilson, Cyril Jackson, and Jamie Tancowny posted on the brand’s Instagram may provide a bit of foreshadowing of what’s to come.

UPDATE 10.16.20: Well, it appears that the big reveal here is that Kareem is actually involved with the Axion reboot this time around. This went from zero to 100 real quick, right? The pictures say it all. Welcome back!
