Chico Brenes Gets an Illustrated Profile in The New York Times

Chico Brenes may have retired from professional skateboarding; but his legend continues as evidenced by a new piece published by The New York Times yesterday. Illustrated by San Francisco-based graphic journalist Wendy MacNaughton, the cartoon tells the story of Brenes’s journey from Nicaragua to the United States, his professional career, and the circumstances surrounding the closing of Brenes’s Central Skate Shop in 2017. The Cheeks getting spotlighted on a platform this large is a true testament to his legacy in our culture. Head over to The New York Times site to check out the rest of MacNaughton’s drawings.
