Thrasher’s New Classic Documentary: ‘Grindland – Red, Monk and the Birth of DIY’

“I’d like to get it so it’d be like a national monument or something so it’d stay there forever. I’m probably dreaming there, but… Y’know, I just like skating and I like building. And this is the place to do it for me.” From Mark Scott’s lips to the skate gods’ ears.

This full-length, highly-anticipated, deep-diving doc explores the early days of the DIY skatepark movement and underlines the dedication of the true concrete trailblazers, Red and Monk. Relive the birth of Burnside in this beautiful documentary complete with rare footage, touching interviews, and the most epic events.

All told, Grindland is a tender tribute to community, enthusiasm, and the monuments skating’s created. An instant classic. Dedicated to the memory of Preston Maigetter, Jake Phelps, and Mark Hubbard.

“And all the skaters who build skateparks.”

The release coincides with Thrasher Magazine’s milestone 500th issue. Here’s to 500 more.

Stene, now almost 30, has been showing his skills for close to 15 years now, and there is no better way to show off his skills with this beautifully filmed video.
