Skate Muzik Pays Homage to Big L on the 20th Anniversary of His Murder

Big L was a staple of hip hop’s golden era, and has been featured in a fair number of skate videos. The most notable being Stevie Williams The Chocolate Tour [1999] part. On February 15 1999, L was gunned down in Harlem. Skate Muzik paid homage to the Uptown rapper on the 20th anniversary of his death with an hour-long set of classic Big L tracks. In 2013, we handled the music supervision for DGK’s Fabian Alomar Free Fabes campaign, and chose L’s “Street Struck” because it perfectly encapsulated the era and Fabian’s story. How 35th North Skate Shop Came to Be

Seeing all the other shops back then were focused on snowboards, Tony Croghan saw the opportunity to establish a shop dedicated to skateboards. He used earnings from a hotel job to start 35th North Skate Shop in Seattle.

After twenty years, 35th North has become a prominent part of the Seattle community, hosting events, art shows, premieres, and karaoke nights.

Pro skaters Matt Gottwig and Kristin Ebeling shared more stories about how the shop became an integral part of the local skate scene in this episode of “Established“.
