Sablone to Design Skateable Sculptures in U.S.
Mainstream media understandably loves Alexis Sablone.
Between M.I.T., architecture, and the Olympics, her story makes for interesting editorial.
The Alltimers and Converse pro’s latest profile comes via The New York Times’ staple on how notable New Yorkers spend their Sundays.
Nestled in the various activities is a reveal regarding her upcoming sculpture projects slated for Richmond and Monclair.
Right now I’m working on a lot of chairs, and everything is in pieces. I’m also working on a large-scale sculpture that’s for a new skatepark outside of Richmond, Va., and another skateable object that I’m going to build in Montclair, N.J.

Watch How Old Decks Transformed into Custom Benches in this Video
Watch Welcome Skate Shop staff and their friends turn old decks into custom benches in this video released by Vans as part of their efforts to promote artists and creativity. Welcome Skate Shop is based in Leeds, UK.
What’s great about this bench is that you can remove the top (the one made with old decks) and now you have a skateable bench. It has storage too so you have a place for your new skateboards or whatever needs storing.
A skateboarder may need to replace their decks in a few months to a year, depending on how hard they grind and how often they ride. Probably millions of skateboards are discarded each year and most of them end up in landfills.
This is just one of the ways worn-out decks can be repurposed. There are also initiatives to recycle and repurpose old wheels to keep them out of landfills.

Here’s What’s Going Down on ‘Go Skateboarding Day’
It’s Go Skateboarding Day on June 21. We’ve sniffed around the local skate scenes and rounded up the activities that were organized by skate shops, skate brands, and skating communities for this year’s skateboarding holiday.
Battle at the Berrics 12 Finals Night – The Berrics, Los Angeles California

Game of Skate Mini Ramp Jam – Sixth Avenue Skatepark, Nashville, TN
City of Downey Skate Jam Go Skate Day 2022-Independence Park, Downey, CA
Skate Jam / Slappy Contest -Maidu Skatepark, Roseville, CA
Go Skate Day – Northside Park, Blacksburg, VA
How Go Skateboarding Day began
Go Skateboarding Day was proposed by Don Brown and formally established by the International Association of Skateboard Companies in 2004 to promote skateboarding and make it more accessible to everyone.
It coincides with the longest day of the year, and it is by design. Since June 21 is the longest day of the year in Continental USA, it means everyone can spend more time skating outside.
What started out as a few small skate sessions in some parts of the US became a worldwide celebration.
