Here’s Why You Should Cop This Josh Kalis Skin Phillips Print
Last week, the news broke that Transworld is ceasing its print magazine after a 36-year run. It was a sad moment for skateboarding. The magazine has been eulogized by hundreds of posts on social media, and will go down as one of the greatest skate publications of all time. Skin Phillips was at its helm during Transworld’s heyday, and is responsible for some of the best photos to grace its pages. His image of Josh Kalis at the Golden Gate Bridge was the cover shot in November 1995. It’s instantly recognizable for anyone who was skating during that era, and is a perfect representation of what Transworld brought to the table. Parade has a limited set of prints signed by Skin available through it’s website for £150.00. Given the limited quantity and historical significance, this is something that you probably don’t want to pass on. Find out more about the image below.

Seeing all the other shops back then were focused on snowboards, Tony Croghan saw the opportunity to establish a shop dedicated to skateboards. He used earnings from a hotel job to start 35th North Skate Shop in Seattle.
After twenty years, 35th North has become a prominent part of the Seattle community, hosting events, art shows, premieres, and karaoke nights.
Pro skaters Matt Gottwig and Kristin Ebeling shared more stories about how the shop became an integral part of the local skate scene in this episode of “Established“.
