Yesterday, Sotheby’s launched its online auction for Keith Haring’s “Pop Shop Drawings.” The 1985 collection served as the foundation for the artist’s Pop Shop screen prints and merchandise, which helped introduce his work to a global audience.
In honor of the launch, the auction house invited A$AP Ferg to its space to discuss art. The Harlem rapper, a visual artist in his own right, talks about how he was first introduced to Haring’s work, and the 1980s Downtown scene’s influence on the A$AP Mob during its formative years. It’s an interesting conversation loaded with cross-cultural appeal for those interested in fine art, hip hop, and New York’s history.
