Chad Muska Tells the Story of the Day That Started His Comeback
Chad Muska’s comeback from a debilitating back injury has been amazing to watch unfold. He went from barely being able to tie his shoes to noeslideing hubbas in what seems like a year. He tells the story of the day that sparked this skateboarding miracle starting at the 3:30:08 mark of the latest episode of The Nine Club.
I was so down. One day, I just stopped and went “What am I doing? I’m out…” I left my car at home and got my skateboard, walked down the hill, and went rolling. In that moment, I felt this crazy energy come through my body. I stood up more, and was skating down the street. These cars were driving by like, “Muska!” [They were] beeping the horn and what not. I think it was some of the Chocolate guys… that was the day.
I skated to Maxfield, a fashion store; Scott Oster built a big ass full pipe there… Nobody was there; it was early in the morning. I was going to look at it, and keep going. Right when I was about to leave, I heard Jesse Martinez like, “Muska!” I was like, “Oh shit, it’s Jesse!” I rolled over, and he was like, “You’re going to skate today, right?” I’m like, “Yeah, I’m gonna skate.”
I started rolling on the full pipe and skating. Scott Oster showed up. Hosoi was there, and Eric Dressen. My idols from my childhood all showed up… That day started it. From that moment on, I made a conscious decision… that this injury is not going to defeat me. I’m going to be aware of it. I’m gonna be more healthy. I’m going to stretch. I’m going to retain positive thoughts. And I’m going to move on with what I have.
If that doesn’t inspire you, we don’t know what will. Watch the full episode above.
