UPDATE: Thrasher Names Milton Martinez 2019’s Skater of the Year

You know the year is coming to a close when Thrasher opens the Skater of the Year poll. We’re refraining from making a final prediction until we’re able to watch Baker 4; but Mark Suciu, Tiago Lemos, Carlos Ribeiro, and Miles Silvas are on our short list of most deserving. View all of the contenders here.

UPDATE 12.06.19: Not our top choice of who put it down the hardest in 2019; but there’s no denying that the kickflip into the Sunset Car Wash Bank will go down in history as one of the gnarliest things done this decade. And for that alone, Milton Martinez deserves this year’s Skater of the Year trophy. Check Thasher’s official announcement below.

UPDATE 12.05.19: Milton Martinez is definitely a frontrunner for this year’s SOTY for obvious reasons. Listen to his take on 2019 below.

UPDATE 12.04.19: Thrasher announced the 2019 SOTY finalists this evening. It came down to Tiago Lemos, Ronnie Sandoval, Sammy Baca, Nora Vasconcellos, Milton Martinez, Mark Suciu, and Justin Figueroa. We’ll see how this all plays out. But we can’t help but notice that there’s one person on the list that clearly doesn’t belong, and is holding down a spot that should have been Carlo Ribeiro’s. Hopefully Tiago, Suciu, or Silvas don’t get robbed when the winner is announced. Check out he finalists edit and Figgy’s Hell of a Year episode below.

UPDDATE 12.03.19: As mentioned previously, we would not be mad if Mile Silvas won SOTY this year. His switch backside heel down Wallenberg, and switch flip into the fountain at Embarcadero, are two of the most memorable tricks of 2019. Check out his highlights, and hear his thoughts on who should take home this year’s trophy below.

UPDATE 11.28.19: The below recap along with this edit of his 2019 iPhone footage is a reminder of why Mark Suciu will likely be this year’s SOTY. But it ain’t over until the bronze trophy is in someone’s hand. And there’s still at least another week for parts to drop to sway the decision. Stay tuned.

UPDATE 11.27.19: This year, Thrasher is talking to some of the people in the running to get recaps of their year, and thoughts on who should take home the 2019 SOTY trophy. We’ll continue to update as these “Hell of a Year” videos are released leading up to the finalists announcement. Watch Ronnie Sandoval, Carlos Ribeiro, and Ishod Wair below.
