Drake Surprise Dropped a Couple of New Tracks Last Night

Published

on

This weekend’s new music pick is definitely the pair of Drake tracks that dropped as the clock struck midnight on February 29. The SoundCloud release of “When to Say When” and “Chicago Freestyle” was accompanied by a Theo Skudra-directed visual that includes the shots of The 6 God at Marcy Projects that went viral last month. Fittingly, he’s rapping over the beat from Jay Z’s “Song Cry” during the scene, which lends context to the location.

During Chicago Freestyle, Drake flips Eminem’s classic “Superman” lyrics, making the song familiar from the initial listening. Through nodding to classics from hip hop’s royalty, Drizzy reminds us that he’s the current incarnation of the lineage. Let’s hope that his upcoming album on his newly-minted Frozen Moments imprint under Universal Music Group manifests by the summer.

We can feel Drake season is approaching.
