Joe Castrucci Breaks Down How the Sovereign Sect Was Reborn

Published

on

We’ve been talking a lot about how good the reunited Alien Workshop and Habitat are looking. The Sovereign Sect is back, and showing signs of returning to its former glory. It will be interesting to see where all of this goes. The story behind its death and rebirth will definitely go down as one of the skate industry’s classic tales.

By now, everyone should know about Rob Dyrdek buying the brands from Burton, selling them to sketchy partners, and then buying them back again to hand over to Mike Hill and Joe Castrucci. What isn’t public record is how Alien and Habitat were reunited under one umbrella. Castrucci breaks it down at 45:26 of the latest episode of The Bunt.

After all that, Dyrdek was cool. He worked with us, and was like, “I just want to get this back into your hands, and have it run out of Ohio. I’ll help you guys get it off the ground. Then, you guys gotta do it yourselves.” I did Habitat on my own. Hill did Workshop on his own. And then, we started talking… and came to the same conclusion… He was like, “Man, I really don’t want to do all of the business stuff, and details of everything. I just wanna do art.” So we worked it out to where now Workshop and Habitat are together. And we’re just running it as the Sovereign Sect again… It’s working. We finally got it sustainable. There’s no sketchy partners. And everything is growing.
